AT HIS SERVICE 10

The week passed quickly.  Tatum was well pleased with the effort that Barry’s friends, Nelson and Cameron put forward in the week at his business.  Barry came to the office two days to help out where needed.  The new ad was ready and more importantly ready for publication in the local gay papers in the area.   Tatum was pleased to see maybe the storm of the previous week had subsided and things were returning to as normal as they could be.  It also seemed the orgy over the weekend had little effect on the involved parties at least when they were at work.  Jason did have the pleasure of personally knowing both Nelson and Cameron along with really knowing his boss.  Tatum was pleased everyone remained professional and did their job to the best of their ability.

“We’ll go,” Jason said.

“Jason, I love having you here.  I wanted to talk about work.  I take it this is not keeping you from anything,” Tatum stated while switching back to being Jason’s boss.

“Right now, it is not.  Tomorrow I taking Keith’s friend again to see that house again with eyes towards making an offer,” Jason said. “I can tell you aren’t pleased with me and Keith being here.”

“Jason, you are fine and more than welcome to stay.  The only problem is with Barry.  It is minor at that,” Tatum stated.

Jason returned to finish while Barry and Keith were trying to outdo each other on the weight system while Tatum changed and worked out quickly while the others sat around and chatted.

“Jason, would you and Keith like to join us for dinner?” Tatum asked after finishing.

“Well… Tatum… I sort of asked them to stay the weekend til Monday,” Barry said.

Tatum did his best to keep his cool and politely excused him and Barry to speak out in the hall.  “I really wish you would clue me in on this.  What if I had something important planned for us to do as a couple?” Tatum said when he and Barry were alone.

“Tatum, I didn’t really think you would mind,” Barry said.

“That’s not the point here Barry.  We are a couple and need to decide things like this together.  I know how much you love to be social and be with your friends after spending so much time with me alone all during the week,” Tatum said.  “I really don’t mind having Jason and Keith here.  I do think a lot of Jason and Keith and do like being around them.”

“Thanks Tatum,” Barry leaned over and shared a kiss with Tatum. “I will definitely get with you before making any decision concerning us.”

“I don’t even have to ask if Nelson or Aaron is coming over, do I?” Tatum asked.

“Don’t worry.  They are heading to Aaron’s lake house for the holiday but I did ask,” Barry smiled.  Tatum gave Barry a short kiss of assurance.

They returned and found Keith and Jason waiting.  “I think maybe we should go.  I can see we have caused a little trouble,” Jason stated.

“Jason, I want you and Keith to stay.  You aren’t the problem here but I think we quickly resolved our very small problem,” Tatum said and put his arm around his friend to show he was sincere.

“I think we can stay,” Keith said.  “So what are the plans for dinner? I am fucking starving over here.”

“You look like you are,” Tatum joked.

“Bitch, this is steel and a hell of a lot of work,” Keith smiled and flexed to show every muscle in his ripped abs.

“I know.  I would die to look half as good as any of you three but I’m working to get there,” Tatum said.

“Tatum I hope I look half as good as you in my 30’s,” Jason commented.

“I suppose we could all use a shower and then head to any where you guys want,” Tatum said. “It’s my treat so eat and drink as much as you like.”

“I can damn sure do that,” Keith said. “So are we all showering together?”  He got answer quickly by the look of Tatum and the tug of his arm by Jason.

The four showered and dressed to head to a local restaurant that was fun and full of life.  Barry volunteered to be the driver to make up with Tatum and allow him to unwind with as many drinks as he wanted without worrying about driving.  Tatum wanted to enjoy his time with his boyfriend and friends on a Friday night and did so with a few drinks to get his blood flowing.

“I could go for that,” Tatum said. “I guess you do need some cut with you working for me more and more now.”

Within an hour, Keith was up and dressed.  He saw Tatum sitting on the couch and sat down with him while waiting on Barry.  “Is this whole thing getting out of hand?”

“Barry and I did talk about it earlier and maybe just a little,” Tatum replied.

“Yeah, I think so too.  Jason does really like both of you and I do as well.  Maybe we should stop before someone gets hurt emotionally if that is alright with you,” Keith stated.

“Those were my thoughts exactly.  Maybe on occasion a reenactment might be nice but we all are in a committed relationship.  So curtailing it here would be nice.”

“You don’t care if Barry and I go out together and get my ears done?”

“I can handle it.  I stay here and wait to see how Jason done today,” Tatum said and saw Barry now ready.  Barry kissed Tatum goodbye.  He and Keith walked out the door.

Tatum went up and donned some shorts for the time being.  He watched television and surfed the internet for the latest news and financial reports.  

About 2, Jason came in the door and had a huge smile on his face.  He found Tatum in the living room.  “I sold a house!”

“Great!” Tatum said. “How certain is it?”

“I have a signed offer and acceptance.  My buyers are preapproved with the house being under their approval price.  Hopefully things will go smoothly barring any problems with the inspections, title work or survey.”

“Great to hear!” Tatum said.  “I guess you know where our boyfriends are?”

“Of course I do.  I was going to join them but decided against it,” Jason said.  “Tatum, are things getting out of hand here slightly?”

“Yes, they are just a little.  I know we all like each other but on the other hand we are both in a committed partnership for about the same length of time.  Maybe we don’t need to have sex with each other all the time in the future,” Tatum said.

“My thoughts exactly.  I’m afraid one of us if not all might get hurt and end two great relationships,” Jason said.

“Yeah me too.  I don’t want to lose Barry and would be devastated if he left me.  It would be all my fault however,” Tatum stated.

“We can have fun together without being sexual.  I know I’ve done it in the past with my friends and can damn sure do it now,” Jason said.

“Jason, you wanna go catch some more sun while we wait on the others?” Tatum asked.

“I could handle that,” Jason said.  “Can we still sunbathe in the nude?  I really do enjoy that aspect a lot.”

“I was planning on it if you think you can handle it?”

“Barry, Keith, Jason and I were talking earlier…” Tatum started to say.

Barry quickly interrupted, “We had the same discussion, too.”

“Yeah, we can be together just not have sex every time. It will still be great,” Keith said.

“So we all have a good understanding then?” Tatum asked.

The next morning, all were up before Tatum woke.  He could hear them in the gym and rose to join the three.  He was a little shocked to see them in shorts, especially Barry.  He returned to his room and found some shorts to join the others while they worked out and took advantage of the available equipment.  They finished and showered as couples.  Barry delighted and showed a little of his growing cooking skills with a nice breakfast of eggs, French toast, fruit and juice.

Right after noon, Jason received a call from a prospective buyer that was interested in seeing some houses.  Jason quickly used Tatum’s computer to print out some sheets of what was in their price and left to do his job.  Tatum was pleased to see Jason’s effort and knew his hard work would be rewarded in growing commissions.

“He loves his job but hates being called on such short notice,” Keith commented after kissing Jason goodbye.

“It is all part of the job.  If Jason refused, then the buyers might look elsewhere.  Buyers are impressed when they can be served at short notice and see the agent cares,” Tatum replied.

“Now count me out of being an agent,” Barry laughed.

“Yeah your ass is set here,” Jason laughed and shoved his friend playfully.

“The worst part is now he knows it,” Tatum said.

“I work my ass off around here for your info.  Why do you think it always looks so damn sweet here,” Barry said.

The three were again interested in getting some sun.  With clouds moving in and the threat of rain in the area, the day out in the sun would be cut short.  They retreated inside and tried to make the best of the impending showers on the horizon.  Being bored, Keith and Barry headed upstairs to work out even more with both now in competition to outdo the other.  Tatum joined them but sat to watch and admire the younger guys work hard as ever.  He got a good sense of the drive in Keith as well as now in Barry with someone challenging him. 

Jason came inside and began looking for them.  He finally heard noise upstairs and climbed to join them.

“How did it go?” Tatum asked.

“Okay is the best I can say.  Both are so undecided and not ready to commit to anything.  I may have my work cut out for them.  Both of them need a huge dose of reality.  You aren’t going to get the square footage in the price range they are looking,” Jason said.

Tatum smiled, “Now you really get to work then.  I loved the challenge but hated the frustration.  Every time I thought I had the perfect, the buyer would find every fault imaginable.”

“Tell me about it,” Jason bemoaned and watched his boyfriend work out.  Both Tatum and Jason sat and admired the two straining and busting out every possible muscle in their bodies.  Keith and Barry didn’t mind testing the limits and actually enjoyed being pushed to the limits.  Again both were nothing but sweat head to toe and retreat to shower off the sweat and funk that had accumulated on their bodies while Tatum helped Jason search for houses for his buyers.

The rest of the day was spent inside with the rain pouring down.  Barry headed to the market nearby and selected some fish to cook for their dinner that night while the others stayed back.  When the meal was served with a great wine, the three were impressed and delighted in bragging on Barry’s skills.  They enjoyed each other’s company while eating all Barry had prepared.  They continued the fun by finishing off the bottle of wine and have some good laughs while learning more about the other.

The next day was brief for Jason and Keith.  They stayed around long enough to enjoy more sun before heading off around 4 that Memorial Day.  Again the house was quiet with everyone gone.  Barry kept busy and starting his cleaning with stripping the beds.  Barry came out with sheets pressed to his face.

“What are doing?” Tatum asked.

“Not now I’m not.  I’m content in being your assistant here and at work.  I can see the drive it takes to be a great agent.  Seeing that I admire you even more and know this house was constructed with a lot of hard work.”

“That and some luck along the way,” Tatum said.

The next day Tatum headed into work with his crew there waiting as if were Monday.  Nelson and Cameron were there and listened closely while Tatum went over the listings, sales and other things of importance.  They broke the meeting with Cameron taking the phones to start the week.

Tatum found Sylvia and asked her in his office.  Sylvia sat down in front of Tatum as asked.

“Sylvia, you mentioned maybe having someone last week for us.  Are there any updates?” Tatum asked.

“I’m glad you asked.  I spoke with my friend Gail who is at another agency in town.  She is very interested and likes the concept we have here,” Sylvia stated.

“So how do like it from your stand viewpoint?” Tatum asked.

“Actually it is great.  With the ad coming out, we can rope in some gay and lesbians who want to be associated with their kind and feel comfortable with who they are.  Matter of fact, my partner has four or five prospects that may be interested in buying homes for the first time,” Sylvia said.

“You know this actually might work,” Tatum stated.

“Tatum, this may be out of context here but have you ever thought of possibly developing a depressed area into a gayborhood?”

“You know Sylvia I haven’t but… that sounds like a great idea,” Tatum said with surprise.

“I was in the area near where most of the gay and lesbian bars are.  I drove a few blocks around and saw the potential there.  The houses are somewhat older…”

“I know exactly where you are talking about.  I have 3 rent houses in the area.  I really like your thinking there.  It would be perfect for us to take the initiative and start the development.  I read where the concept has worked in other towns and know it would work here,” Tatum said with his mind working in full gear.  “It is something I will for sure look into.”

“Great Tatum, I’ll look forward to see if this gets off the ground.  The others that left will eventually be sorry,” Sylvia smiled.

“Right now, I doubt I would take any of them back except for Jimmy who did ask to return,” Tatum said.

“I don’t see why he wouldn’t.  I heard he’s been seen lately with a guy or two,” Sylvia said.

“Sylvia, it’s just gossip but it is interesting to hear and might explain why he came back.  He may be in the closet still and doesn’t want to be open as the rest of us are,” Tatum said.

Tatum shook Sylvia’s hand and looked forward to meeting her friend to add another female to balance things out more.  He walked around the office and did notice now the tension was gone.  He could sense they all got along where there were little differences and stiff competition before this all occurred.

As never before, Tatum enjoyed mingling with his associates.  He enjoyed talking to them since now there were so few.  They remained professional at times when called for but were more sociable than ever. 

“So when do I get an invite to your place?” Vince asked.

“You are welcome anytime along with you Sylvia,” Tatum stated. “I would enjoy meeting your partners as well and getting to see you with them.”

“I might just do that some time,” Vince smiled.

Cameron appeared in the doorway, “There’s someone hear to see you, Tatum.”

“I’ll be right there,” Tatum said.  He excused himself and walked to the front.  When he got there, Jimmy was there waiting and appeared rather nervous.  “Come on back,” Tatum motioned to his former associate. 

They walked back to Tatum’s office and shut the door for privacy.  “What’s on your mind?”

“Ummm… I came to see if my old job was still available,” Jimmy stuttered and looked at Tatum. “I’ve denied it long enough.  Tatum, you are looking at another gay guy.  There’s no since in denying it since I do live with my boyfriend now.  I really need to just accept the fact and be back where I truly belong.  Here, I will have a big support group who can help with the… transition and accept who I really am.”

“Welcome back home, Jimmy,” Tatum smiled at the relieved 29 year old. “So you are ready to handle this?”

“I sure hope so.  I thought about it all weekend and knew this was really the place for me to work.”

“Your desk is still there,” Tatum said.  They stood and embraced.  Jimmy gave Tatum a huge smile.

“I need to tell the others,” Jimmy inhaled. “Tatum, would you help me out?”

“I’ll be at your side whenever you need help,” Tatum said. 

They exited the office.  Jimmy told the others he was back and he too was gay.  Nothing but praised was showered on Jimmy.  They were happy to have him be a part of the group.  With Jimmy’s addition, the pending addition of Gail, Cameron and Nelson, Tatum was back at full force now with no other plans to accept any more associates. 

The next day Wednesday after lunch, Vince walked in the office holding one of the two publications where the ad was to appear.  They all gathered around while Vince opened the paper to show the full page ad.

“Wow Tatum, you don’t do things half-assed, do you?” Nelson commented.

“Nope.  We might as well be proud and show our pride,” Tatum smiled.

“Tatum, it looks great.  You did an awesome job,” Jimmy said and now was glad to be back.

“Let’s just see what kind of results we get or back lash,” Tatum said.  “I want all questions or comments directed to me.  This was my decision and I’ll handle all calls and inquiries.”

With the ad now out on the street, Tatum saw his transition from a regular real estate firm to one that catered to the gay community was beginning.  Deep down, there were lingering doubts but knew somehow this concept would work and be a success.  Being gay, Tatum wished more businesses would be true to themselves and not afraid to be more open in a heterosexually dominated society.  He, more than ever, took pride and wanted to be a bigger of the gay community in his area.  He knew his life now was never better with a great business and even better boyfriend at his side who he dearly loved.
